The Acer Aspire One pink netbook, at just over 2 pounds, is a great option for someone looking for something lightweight and stylish. This little machine only has an 8.9 inch screen, so it isn't the best for power business users, but it is great for things like web browsing, checking email, instant messaging, VOIP calls, streaming video, viewing photos and listening to music on the go.
The small size makes this a perfect option for students, travelers, or business users who need to stay connected but don't need a large screen.
The specifications are pretty standard for a netbook. You can get Windows XP Home or Linpus Linux. Windows XP Home is a good option simply because everyone knows how to use it. But Linpus might be a better option for the student or non-business traveler. It has all of the features of Windows, and even has an Office suite similar to Microsoft's that is free. Because this machine is under $400, buying a copy of Office can raise that price by almost 50%!
Another nice option is the hard drive. You can get 160GB, 120GB, or an 8GB flash memory disk. The 8GB flash memory won't help if you want to store movies, but it is great for someone who just wants to surf the web and use email, because it is 1) silent (no disc is spinning) and 2) uses less power (so your batter lasts longer).
The Asus Aspire One comes with built in speakers, microphone and webcam.
It is small and light, coming in at just 2.2 lb. and 9.8" wide x 6.7" deep x 1.1" high.
These are awesome!
